Lattitudes in the south east of Rajasthan, this fascinating city was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559 and was christened UDAIPUR[A brief History]. Because Udaipur is surrounded by Aravali ranges, the old city is mostly an a hillock, for the planned development execution of the approved master plan. The old city is encircled by a 6 mile long bastioned wall which is pierced by 11 gates, Entrance to the city is mainly from Surajpole gate on the east. Now this massive wall is giving way to new Bazars and buildings by efforts of the Urban Improvement Trust.
Udaipur has the biggest place of Rajasthan, enchanting lakes, spacious gardens and many historical monuments. Because of its charming climate through the year, this place has established its identity as a semi-hill station, and that is why Udaipur attracts every year thousands of tourists. Although climate is good all round the year but period from October to March is desirable for tourists.
Udaipur is linked by Rail, Motor and Air with other parts of the India. All important cities of the country can be reached by motor from here because National Highway no. 8 which connects Delhi-Ahmedabad passes from here. This highway has Alwar, Jaipur, Ajamer, Kankroli, Nathdawara, Ekilngji, Udaipur, Rishabhdeoji etc. visiting places. By the regular accessible from Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Jodhpur and Bombay.
