Udaipur, the city of lakes, is also known as the garden city of Rajasthan. This romantic city, with the backdrop of picturesque lakes and lush green gardens, appeals to the aesthetic sense of any spectator. The very name of garden brings a sense of relief in the era of concrete jungles. In the bygone ages, the rulers of Udaipur designed a few gardens & parks to remain close with nature and serenity. The city of Udaipur boasts of several gardens that are truly a green retreat in the dry lands of Rajasthan. The city of Udaipur is well known for its attractive gardens, fed by water from the lakes. Saheliyon ki bari is an 18th century landscaped garden, withwell maintained fountains dating from the 1800s, pavilions from the 1700s and 1800s, black marble kiosks and white marble sculpture.
Gulab bagh in the Sajjan niwas complex is a rose garden . Sajjan niwas also has the Saraswati Bhawan Victoria hall, inaugurated in 1890 by a British viceroy, a small zoo and spacious lawns. The 100 acre complex dates to the late-19th century rule of Maharana Sajjan Singh. On Moti Magri hill facing lake Fatehsagar are gardens with fountains and an 11 foot tall equestrian statue of Maharana Pratap.There is a popular spot called Sukhadia circle , named after ex Chief minister Mr Mohan Lal Sukhadia. It has a huge lotus shaped fountain right in the middle of small pond. There is facility of boating . Just across the road is probably busiest food joints of udaipur. Nature gifted the 'Garden City' of Udaipur with abundance of water and richness of soil, and man carved out of them beautiful gardens—the well known resorts of leisure and pleasure for tourists visiting this city. Large gardens and orchard are integrated part of the history of Udaipur. Their location and size represent the balance between the natural landforms of the city and built environment.



The lakes and tropical climate of Udaipur city make it possible to generate gardens here. Gulab Bagh or Sajjan Niwas Garden is a fabulous garden full of unusual rose flowers. Nehru Island Park is outlined as an island in the Fateh Sagar Lake. Saheliyo ki Bari was constructed with a different concept and was meant for the pleasure of royal ladies. Guru Govind Singh Park (Rock Garden) offers a captivating view of the golden sky. As the Sun hides behind the Aravalli hills, one can observe the flickering Fateh Sagar Lake.

Aravali Vatika, Meera Park, Manikya Lal Verma Park, Nehru Municipal Children's Park, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadyaya Park and Moti Magri Park are some other interesting parks of Udaipur. Gulab Bagh & Zoo Gulab Bagh & Zoo

Meaning " The Rose Garden," is situated in Sajjan Niwas Park. Sajjan Singh laid out the Gulab Bagh in the late 19th Century. The Saraswati Bhawan Library (originally called the Victoria Hall) is a striking building that was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. It contains many rare books and a displaced statue of Victoria.A spectacular rose Garden laid out by Maharana Sajjan Singh, is situated near the palace on east side of Lake Pichhola. A library in the garden has a rare collection of ancient handwritten manuscripts and books.
Within the garden, there is a zoo with tigers, leopards, chinkara and many wild animals and birds are being kept. Sajjan Niwas Garden is the largest garden of Rajasthan, sprawled over 100 acres of land. Sajjan Niwas Bagh is celebrated for its numerous varieties of roses. Due to abundance of rose flowers, this garden is also known as Gulab Bagh or Rose Garden. Sajjan Niwas garden or the Gulab Bagh with an area of 100 acres is perhaps the biggest and best garden in India. Apart from the trees, flowerbeds and a zoo, the garden also has a museum to boast of. The museum, originally known as Victoria Hall Museum, was well known for its collection of antiques and curios. It has now been shifted to Karan Vilas Mahal within the City Palace complex. The museum, the library and a reading room are all located inside the Victoria Hall. In the month of Shravan (Jul/Aug) a fair is held here on every Monday. It has electrically lit and well planned tarred roads, well maintained spacious lawns, a good museum, a library (containing rarest and valuable paintings, manuscripts and books of historical importance). main water pumping station and water reservoir of the recently laid out comprehensive water supply scheme are also here.
The garden, apart from its commercial value, is actually a Zoological & Botanical garden with Wild Life Park in it. The administration has protected and revitalized this garden gradually. A visit to this spacious garden and various places in it will soothe the soul and enrich the mind of visitors.

Dudh Talai

This is a beautiful, recently restored musical fountain situated near sunset point to the side of Machala Magra Mountain. The lovely, tranquil park in the area provide a romantic place from which to see the sun setting over Lake Pichola. For those who enjoy a brisk climb and an even wider view, there is a path to the top of the mountain upon which stands the ruin of an ancient fort

Sahelion - ki - Bari (Garden of the maids of honour) Sahelion-Ki-Bari

Sahelion-ki-Badi (Girl Friends' Garden or Honoured Girls' Garden) is a small ornamental garden, just adjoining the east of the embankment of Fatehsagar lake was constructed in its present form by Maharana Fateh Singh after the original garden had been washed away on account of the breach of its old embankment. This unique garden made for Princess & Queen

A profusion of flowers, well laid court-yards and lotus-pool studded with water fountains guarded by four marble elephants—each elephant sculptured out of a single piece of stone—will feast the eyes of visitors. Spacious and well maintained lawns beautified by blooming flowers and the setting of huge groves of trees present a spectacular sight to enjoy.

The fountains at Saheliyon Ki Bari give a marvelous feeling of rain without monsoon. The technique of operating the fountains is energy conserving and oriented upon the gravitational force principle. When the fountains are in their showery action creating rain-like sounds, white elephants emit water through their lovely trunks on lotus leaves, water rains down the circular eaves of the chhatri standing in a huge water pool—visitors find themselves amidst the rain-like scenes and atmosphere to be seen, believed and enjoyed. The garden has assumed the attraction of one of the glamour spots of the city for cine-film-shooters and has contributed considerably to the scenic beauty of a number of film pictures.
On completing his visit of the garden, the visitor will feel himself carried-into a fairy-land permeated with romantic air. The garden is open to visitors from morning to evening during scheduled hours. Udaipur is a city of lakes and gardens, big and small. The Sahelion - ki - Bari is a fine specimen. On the eve of his departure from Mewar, Col.Tod had shifted to it so as to have some needed solitude. Much later, a thoughtful had located a library in it ! On the shores of Fateh Sagar Lake was built a garden for the 48 young girls waiting to be sent to the royal house as part of dowry. This garden is laid with extensive lawns, fountains and shady walking lanes. There are four pools with dainty kiosks and fountains with elephant trunks for spouts. These gardens appear discrete and impeccable in taste.Saheliyon Ki Bari is one the most beautiful gardens and a major tourist destination in Udaipur. The garden is famous for its lush green lawns, marble art and fountains. English translation of Saheliyon Ki Bari means "Garden of maids". This renowned garden is located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, presenting a green retreat in the dry lands of Rajasthan.
    This small ornamental garden was a popular relaxing spot where royal ladies came for a stroll and hence the name. The garden has many fountains in its four delightful pools, chiselled kiosks and marble elephants.

 

 

Nehru Island Garden

Nehru garden is beautifully developed by PWd and is located in the island of Fateh sagar Lake. Boating facility is available to get in the park.

This oval shaped island garden is situated amidst the Fateh Sagar Lake. In order to reach this romantic garden, you have to take a boat ride in the lake. The lush green garden with its water fountains, flower gardens and a lily pond offers truly an eye-soothing view for any observer. The garden also comprises a restaurant where you can enjoy the lip-smacking dishes along with the scenery of green Aravalli hills.

MANIKYA LAL VERMA GARDEN


The Manikya Lal Verma Garden, at Dudh Talai, carved out of a rugged rock at an attractive eminence is on the Fateh Sagar Drive. It is permeated with inviting atmosphere to provide passers- by with a soothing halt and a viewsome change from the monotonous expansion of water of the lake in front.

The grandeur of this garden lies in its wall maintained smallness. A peep from the eminence at the vast sheet of water reflected by mountains, gives a panoramic view of Nature's beauty and the sinking sun blessing the parting evening with its golden hand' which appear quivering through the ripplets of the gloomy lake. This park is developed by Nagar Parishad (Municipal Council) Udaipur

DEENDAYAL UPADHYAY GARDEN


It is another beautiful garden developed around the Doodhtalai by Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) Udaipur, the local development authority. Both the hill gardens are well maintained and give the terrace view of lakes and natural beauty. On the other hand it is the Sunset point. Behind the long range of Arravallis the sun sets in another hemisphere. The scene over the lakes gives new thoughts to poets, authors and inspiration to lovers. The musical fountain in Deendayal Upadhyay garden attracts tourists and local residents.

MOTI MAGRI

The Pearl Hill covers the eastern coastal area of Fateh Sagar. Well-maintained rock garden with the monuments of Maharana Pratap and his patriot colleagues cannot be missed. The statue of Maharana Pratap mounted on his beloved horse Chetak creates the scene of the battle of Haldi Ghati in mind.
